We are proud supporters of the Wigan Youth Zone

Located in the centre of Wigan on 37,243 sq. ft. the Wigan Youth Zone was established in 2013 to support young people in Wigan and Leigh, enabling them to achieve their full potential.

Our Vision:

Is to “Develop and improve our model to ensure that all young people in Wigan and Leigh achieve their full potential”

“SOMEWHERE TO GO, SOMETHING TO DO, SOMEONE TO TALK TO”

Since the Youth zone opened we are proud to report, that:

  • 89% of young people say that the youth zone has had a positive influence on their self confidence
  • 80% of Youth Zone members report better marks in class
  • 73% are achieving better grades in exams or coursework
  • 70% of members exercise more regularly since the Youth Zone opened
  • 75% of local business owners reported a reduction in fear of youth related crime or anti- social behaviour as a result of the Youth Zone
  • Up to 10,000 young people attended the holiday club in any one year

We have so many emotive/positive and inspirational stories to share and I would love the opportunity to give you a tour of the Youth Zone to learn more about what we do and witness first-hand the work we do.

SIAN

Sian has been coming to the Youth Zone since we opened in June 2013. When she first started to come to the Art Zone as she enjoyed the peace and quiet and used to sit quietly doing her own studies in her sketchbook and joining in the various activities planned.

Sian had suffered from bullying which had knocked her self-esteem and confidence in social situations. In the time that Sian has been at the Youth Zone she has grown in confidence massively. Sian really enjoys Manga, Anime and cartoons.

Sian said “I love coming to the Art Zone. Coming here has made me be confident about the person I am. It’s a place I can come and just be myself and do all the things I enjoy.”

DANIEL PEET

Age: 11

Nickname: Lil P

Favourite hobby: Riding scooters

Favourite part of the YZ: Skate park

Favourite rider: Harry Maine

Daniel Peet is a regular on the skate park at the Wigan Youth Zone. He is a new member, never went to junior sessions and only started in September 2015 as a senior. He used to use public Skate parks but felt intimidated by the older riders that also used it and he never tried new tricks in case he hurt himself so he could never progress. When he heard about the Wigan Youth Zones skate park, he signed up straight away.
